Starting at an early age, Chef Denise has always had a passion for baking. She considers herself a late bloomer into the culinary world and did not attend culinary school until her two children were in their late teens. She was watching a commercial for The Art Institute of Houston and enrolled in the Culinary Arts program. No one was more surprised than her husband of 29 years, Jim. She Graduated in 2008 with honors.
In 2009 she opened The Lemon Wedge in downtown Bryan. Jose Montemayor was a mentor and a wonderful friend. He is dearly missed. The restaurant closed in 2014 due to unforeseen circumstances. She loved every minute at The Lemon Wedge. Chef Denise has cooked and created for weddings, bridal showers, baby showers, rehearsal dinners, she has even served the former First Lady at the Bush Library.
Chef Denise currently caters under Chef Denise, Catering and Culinary Delights. She also prepares lunch and dinner for 43 young and aspiring girls at the Delta Zeta house on campus, keeping Chef on her toes and always creating new things to prepare for them.
Besides her husband, children and two precious grandchildren, Chef Denise has an almost larger passion for her 22 year old Thoroughbred horse, Logan. She has had him since he was 6. She credits the life of her children during their late teens to him. She has two dogs, Scooter and Ranger that are never far from her when she is home, plus numerous dogs that are outside.
With family & friends, you can always guarantee that the conversation always turns to food and what can be prepared next…Now back to the kitchen where the creativity and fun begins.
